What is Open Hardware?

Open Source Hardware is hardware whose design is made publicly available so that anyone can study, modify, distribute, make and sell the design or hardware based on that design. The hardware’s source is available in the preferred format for making modifications to it. (extracted from OSHW Definition V1.0)

The Internet itself is the ultimate open-source platform. Combining the Internet with open-source hardware and software is a matter of establishing simple and robust Internet connectivity. At WIZnet we are successfully working with partners such as Arduino and Microchip to establish our easy-to-use Internet offload technology as the ‘glue’ that brings together the pieces of the ‘trivergence’ puzzle.

Leaflab builds 32-bit microcontroller development boards. With 72MHz clock speed, up to 512KB Flash, and up to 64KB RAM, their open–source devices can take on though computational tasks. The WIZnet’s WIZ820io module provides their Maple board an Ethernet connection. With one SPI and three digital IOs, you have the whole Internet in your hands.
